The central tegment pathway originates in the small cellular part of the nucleus ruber high up in the mesencephalon, runs on the outside and behind/dorsally of the nucleus ruber, and draws down to and excites the olivainferior complex in the medulla oblongata. The orbit is an important link in the interaction between the cerebrum cortex, nucleus ruber and cerebellum.
The Central Railway also provides round-trip traffic within the formatio retikularis.
