Lying, one on hay. and one on the left. side of the mean line at the bottom of the dorsal side of the medulla oblongata (posterior). The nucleus receives filaments (fasciculus gracilis) that mediate high-resolution mechanoreception from the lower limb and lower trunk.
The axons leaving the nucleus cross in the decussatio lemniscorum (lemnic crossing) directly across the midline and turn off upwards in the brainstem where they form the medial lemnic together with axons from the nucleus cuneatus.
