Neglect

Hemineglect

Neglect = denial of, or disregard for, sensory impressions that flow into one hemisphere of the brain from the opposite half of the outside world (sight, hearing and touch) and/or from the opposite half of the body (touch, especially muscle joint sensation). Left-sided neglect states are more common than right-sided ones.

A left-sided neglect condition occurs, for example, after a stroke that affects the parietal lobe of the right hemisphere. A state of neglect can seem particularly strange and shocking. The sufferer denies everything that takes place in the left-wing sensory world: does not want to feel the body parts that belong to the left. body half, washes only its right body half, eats only the part of the food that is within the right plate half, etc.
