The cardiopulmonary braids

Plexus cardiacus et pulmonalis plexus

In front of the vertebral column, in the thoracic cavity, postganglionic sympathetic nerve fibers (cardiac and pulmonary nerves) are interwoven with preganglionic parasympathetic nerve fibers and postganglionic parasympathetic nerve cells to the various heart and lung braids. From these, mixed postganglionic nerve fibre bundles then emanate to the target organs in the thorax.
