Rami Cardiaci, Rami Pulmonales, Rami Esophagei

Tenth organs of the cranial nerves in the thoracic cavity., Intestinal branches of cranial nerve 10 in the thoracic cavity

During its course down through the throat and chest cavity, the n.vagus emits a large number of thin bundles of nerve fibers. These preganglionic nerve fibers form nerve braids - including the cardiacus plexus and pulmonalis plexus - in front of the vertebral column and here contact postganglionic parasympathetic neurons that connect to the heart, lungs and esophagus.
