This is the protruding and finely rounded back of the visual mound (thalamus). The outer knee body, where the visual pathway ends, is located on the underside of the pulvinar. Pulvinar is connected to the visual pathway and is of great importance for the brain's handling of visual impressions.
The Latin word "pulvinar" means sacrificial pillow and refers to the precious pillow on which, in the home, one placed one's offerings to the gods.
