Rafe-spinal conduction pathway

Tractus raphe-spinalis

Conduction path, rafe-spinal

This is one of the most important analgesic conduction pathways in the spinal cord.

The pathway starts from an accumulation of serotonin-producingneurons (nucleus raphes magnus) in the medulla oblongata, runs down the spinal cord lateral cord and directly and indirectly inhibits the neurons that give rise to the large ascending pain pathway (tractus spino-thalamicus lateralis).
