The outer wedge-shaped nerve fibre of the posterior cord - the cuneatus bundle - one on the right side and one on the left side, extends upwards in the posterior cord with increasing thread count, counting from the segmental level T6-7 and up into the medulla oblongata, where it ends in the outer posterior nucleus (nucleus cuneatus).
The filamentous mass contains, among other things, ascending branches from the thicker nerve fibers that enter the spinal cord via the hind roots and which convey detailed pressure and touch sensations from the skin as well as information from joints and muscles (proprioception) in the upper part of the torso, in the arm with the hand and fingers and in the neck, the so-called hindstring qualities.
