Blood vessel inlet, posterior

Substantia perforata posterior

Posterior blood vessel entry

The area is located in the midline of the underside/front of the brain at the bottom of the mesencephalon (fossa interpeduncularis). The area is distinguished by about ten small but very clear holes/perforations. These are the entry points for the narrow arteries supplying the interior of the mesencephalon, the subthalamus area and the posterior parts of the thalamus.
