Counts to the prefrontal cortex along with areas 9, 10, 11, 12, 32, 47, and parts of 24. The area receives the large longitudinal upper association path, which e.g. starts from the PTO region where vision, hearing, balance and most types of sensory impressions are coordinated.
The area is important, among other things, for working memory.
