Nucleus ruber

The nucleus, one on the right and one on the left, is usually part of the extrapyramidal system and is located in the upper part of the midbrain/mesencephalon . It contains nerve cell bodies with red-colored iron-containing small grains (pigments) and is divided into a large (magnocellular) and a small cell (parvocellular) part.

The nucleus ruber receives signal inputs from the bark of the frontal lobe as well as from the nucleus interpositus in its magnocellular part and from the dentate nucleus in its parvocellular part.
