Peripheral nervous system

Systema nervosum periphericum

PNS includes all parts of the nervous system that do not belong to the brain and spinal cord. That is, it includes:

a) The spinal nerves with their branches to the skin, skeletal muscle and joints
(b) the roots of the spinal cord and the posterior/spinal ganglia;
(c) cranial nerves with their ganglia (it is uncertain whether the first two cranial nerves, the olfactory and juvenile nerves, should be included in the PNS);
(d) the PNS moieties of the autonomic nervous system, such as the sympathetic boundary cord (truncus sympatheticus) and large parts of the n. vagus, as well as sympathetic and parasympathetic ganglia and braids (plexan);
