The nucleus, with the acetylcholine-producing cell group Ch7, only sends filaments via the tractus habenulo-interpeduncularis to the nucleus interpeduncularis , which in turn has an extensive outflow of signals to the rostral rafe nuclei. Because of this, the medial habenula nucleus will form part of the so-called inner habenular link that joins the septal region with the rostral rafe nuclei.
