Belongs to the upper/dorsal group of thalamus nuclei and belongs to the limbic thalamus nuclei.
The nucleus lateralis dorsalis thalami, one on the right and one on the left side, connects to the anterior thalamus nuclear group. The nucleus receives signals from the uppermost part of the lamina tecti and transmits signals primarily to the limbic lobe cortex.
