Belongs to the dopamine-producing cell group of the mesencephalon.
Cell group A11 consists of strewn dopaminergic neurons located in the nucleus raphes linearis and around fasciculus retroflexus (ref.37/b p. 901) and in the zona incerta.
The signal outflow from A11 is primarily directed to various brainstem and spinal cord nuclei.
