Belongs to the acetylcholine-producing cell group.
Cell group Ch5, one such group on the right side and one on the left side, is connected to the nucleus cuneiformis in the mesencephalon/midbrain and constitutes the compact part of the pedunculopontina nucleus.
The output signal flow of the core lies:
1/ collected in the "ascending reticular activation system", i.e. in the dorsal tegment pathway that partially reaches the striatum and globus pallidus but which above all transmits excitatory branches to virtually all thalamus nuclei. Then the signal flow from the thalamus to the cerebral cortex increases - the cerebral cortex is activated.
2/ branched down the brainstem and into the cerebellum.
