Belongs to the dopamine-producing cell group
Cell group A10, such a group on the right side and one on the left side, is located ventrally near the midline of the upper midbrain on the inside of the compact part of the substantia nigra . The dopamine-producing neurons are mostly concentrated in the area tegmentalis ventralis.
