Here you have the scene where the will-controlled movement commands, delivered with the help of the "Pyramidal System", should appear on when they make their way from the motor cortex of the large brain to different muscle groups. The stage consists of six (1 - 6) main parts. Check carefully that you have understood what is right and left and what is from behind and below. Here, ticking "Cut turn" (the checkbox at the end of the text) can be helpful. 1/ On the left of the stage, six cross-sectional discs are stacked: the two at the bottom through the spinal cord, the next disc from the boundary zone between the spinal cord and the brainstem, the three above through the brainstem. The slightly grey areas show the location of different spinal cord and brainstem nuclei (compare with the picture "Brainstem and spinal cord: nuclei and conduction pathways 2"). "Incision turn" shows that you look at the incision discs from below and that upwards in the image (1) correspond backwards.2/ and 3/ in the middle of the stage:2/ The brainstem with the pile of vision (thalamus) at the top and the top five cervical spinal cord segments at the bottom, all seen from behind (dorsally). To the right of the spinal cord originating in segment C5 is a motor unit plotted.3/ Lower part of the spinal cord as seen from behind. To the right of the spinal cord originating in segment L3, a motor unit is plotted. The slightly grey areas of 2/ and 3/ mark the foreroots and cranial nerves.4/ To the right of the stage is a human body seen from behind.5/ At the top of the stage are the left and right hemispheres of the cerebrum seen partly from the outside and partly from the inside. 6/ Between the two hemispheres of the cerebrum lies their cross-sectional counterpart. The inner nerve fibre capsule (capsula interna) that connects the visual mound (thalamus) with the large/end brain (telencephalon) is marked only by its name. You should examine the scene at different magnifications (put the pointer in the large field, magnify by holding down the Ctrl key and click, reduce by also holding down the shift key) and move around the scene as you go (put the pointer in the large field, hold more Alt key and move the image with the pointer, now one hand).

Step 1.

The areas of origin of the pyramidal system in the cerebral cortex and its target areas in the brainstem and spinal cord - overview. Activate and expand the five lists in turn. Go through them as usual! When you're done, select the body half you want to check. Step 2 = right half of the body. Step 3 = left half of the body.

Step 2.

Will-controlled motion control of the right half of the body. Check the body region - head, upper limb or lower limb - where you want to control the movements. Proceed systematically. Take the different regions in turn. Light them up and unfold the lists as you go. Turn on and off in turn. Click in the picture or on the name in the list to get information! When you are done with one region, turn it off before moving to the next. Note that, in the case of the tr. cortico-nuclearis below, motor cranial nerve nuclei on the left side have also been given a faint marking. This would suggest that several of them receive a small number of uncrossed threads. Note that the spinal accessorius nucleus is an exception where special conditions apply.

Step 3.

Will-controlled motion control of the left half of the body. Check the body region - head, upper limb or lower limb - where you want to control the movements. Proceed systematically. Take the different regions in turn. Turn on and off in turn. Click in the picture or on the name in the list to get information! When you are done with one region, turn it off before moving to the next. On this half of the body, in the figure the motor units are missing. They simply don't fit!
