Starting stage During this dissection, you should expose the area around the optic nerve cross and dissect the insula border (limen insulae) and the anterior vascular inlet (substantia perforata anterior). You should also try to find the almond nucleus (amygdala) by cutting off the frontal pole of the temporal lobe (step 4) and look at a detailed picture of the small brain (step 5), here you can repeat the structures on the underside of the brain.

Step 1.

Prepare the removal of the neck, crown and temporal lobes as well as the outer parts of the frontal lobe.

Step 2.

Free-prepared underside. Almost the entire cerebellum has been removed. Previously obscured parts of the underside are now free.

Step 3.

Detail image from the bottom. Notice the insula border that allows the middle cerebrum artery to travel from the underside of the brain to its outside. Also notice all the small holes in the anterior blood vessel inlet. Here, branches from the middle and anterior aorta make their way into the central parts of the brain. Clogging of one or more of these blood vessels is a common cause of stroke.
